GM McCrossin, an ENR Top 500 Specialty Contractor, was contracted to process piping, mechanical piping and ductwork for a new state-of-the-art water treatment plant at Pennsylvania State University. They needed to leverage construction technology tools to meet requirements and deliver quality results.

The model for miles of stainless steel pipe connecting hundreds of different water-treatment equipment was provided in a format that lacked all the material standards to build from, and most equipment selections weren’t included.
OUR APPROACH
Provide a solution that converted the engineer’s Revit model into intelligent and constructible pipework. They also needed accurate modeling with a strategy to share, communicate, and update with field crews.
SOLUTION
Trimble® SysQue® Pipe, with the library of native Revit pipe, valve, fittings and specialty components, created a model that incorporated real-world joining methods, brand and manufacturers' part numbers, and precise geometry.

Results

Being able to share the model and updates was critical to coordinate the project detailers, fab shop, and job site. Streamlined procurement and 100% off-site prefabrication resulted in no field welds, and installation took a fraction of the time with less labor.
