Is it possible to checkout or transfer my DuctDesigner 3D license to another computer (a laptop) so I can work in the software at a different location?

The DuctDesigner 3D provides an option to checkout your license for a maximum of 30-days at a time. This allows you to work in the software at a remote location.

Tip - The DuctDesigner 3D software must be installed on both computers before successfully transfer a license.

License Checkout Procedures

Target Computer - This is the computer that you will be transferring the license to. The DuctDesigner 3D software must be installed on this computer in order to use the checked out license.

  1. On the target computer, open the DuctDesigner 3D Data Editor and then go to Tools / Security Server Utilities. The Trimble Security Server Utilities for DuctDesigner 3D window displays.

  2. Click the Information tab. This screen displays DuctDesigner 3D license information; for example, total number of licenses available, number used and number free.

  3. Make note of the Server Trimble Key. You will need this information when you perform the license checkout procedure on the host computer

Host Computer - This is the computer that contains the master DuctDesigner 3D database (Security Server). If you are working on a network, this will be the server where the DuctDesigner 3D Security Server is installed. If you are working on a stand-alone system, this is the computer where you work in the DuctDesigner 3D software.

  1. On the host computer, go to Tools / Security Server Utilities. The Trimble Security Server Utilities for DuctDesigner 3D window displays.

  2. Choose Transfer Tools / Check Out a license seat.

  3. In the Key this License for pane, enter the Trimble software key (from the target computer).

  4. In the Path for "Transfer" file pane, enter the destination where the transfer license file will be saved. Note: The DuctDesigner 3D software automatically defaults this location to your computer's floppy drive. If you want to save the data to media other than a floppy drive (zip disk, CD-RW or network drive), click the Browse button and navigate to the appropriate location.

  5. Enter the date in the License will automatically be checked in on field. If the license is not checked back in by the date entered, the DuctDesigner 3D software automatically checks the license back into the master system. The license at the target system becomes disabled.

  6. Click OK.

  7. In the Information window, click OK.

Target Computer - Import Borrowed License

  1. On the target computer, open the DuctDesigner 3D Data Editor and go to Tools / Security Server Utilities. The Trimble Security Server Utilities for DuctDesigner 3D window displays.

  2. In the Trimble Security Server Utilities window, complete the following.

  • Choose Transfer Tools / Import "borrowed" license.

  • Navigate to the location of the license file (may be called QPITrns.V1). Click on it.

Tip - The DuctDesigner 3D software always assumes the location is your floppy drive. If you have saved it in another location, click the Cancel button in the Insert disk message, then you can navigate to the proper location.

  • An Information message displays. Click OK.

  • Close the Trimble Server Utilities window.

  1. You can now use the DuctDesigner 3D software on the target computer.

The license is available on the target computer through the date entered at the time the license was checked out from the host computer.

Caution - Keep in mind that transferring licenses does not move your work. It moves only the licenses. You will have to move your work to the host computer the Backup/Restore utilities.
