Creating a VulcanXP Database Backup

The Database Maintenance Utility program is used to backup and restore databases, update scripts, and run any necessary data commands.

  1. From the server/computer where the database resides, choose Start, All Programs, QuickPen and Database Maintenance Utility.
  2. From the Available instances of SQL drop down list, select the SQL instance where your VulcanXP database resides. This is typically Vulcan1\Quickpen  (where Vulcan1 represents the computer name and Quickpen represents the instance name of SQL.  Some customers running MSDE version of SQL may see (Local) for the Instance name)
  3. From the Please pick a database to use drop down list, select the database VulcanXP. Click the Backup/restore tab and the database selected is displayed as shown below.

4. Choose Backup now to start the backup process. After the backup is complete, the message “database backed up successfully” appears at the bottom of the Database Maintenance window. The backup file name and date is added to the existing backup list.

All backup files are copied to C:\DatabaseBackup. For quick access to the backup files, choose Explore backup folder button at bottom left. We strongly recommend that you copy database backups to a CD, network drive, or USB memory stick for safe keeping.
